Call for Papers

The 2nd Politics and International Relations Congress is being organized by the Department of International Relations at Karadeniz Technical University on 15-16 November 2018 in Trabzon, Turkey.

The Congress aims to convene a vast array of contributors, including policy makers, practitioners and researchers to reflect the full diversity of the politics and international relations community from across the globe.

Keynote Speakers

Ziya Öniş is Professor of International Political Economy at Koç University in Istanbul. He is the former Director of both the Center for Research on Globalization, Peace and Democratic Governance (GLODEM) (2010-2013) and the Graduate School of Social Sciences and Humanities (2006-2009) at Koç University. Prior to his appointment at Koç University, he was a faculty member in the Economics Department at Boğaziçi University. His recent research focuses on the global financial crisis and its implications for future patterns of globalization, southern varieties of capitalism, democratization dilemmas in emerging powers, the political economy of Turkey during the AKP era, new directions in Turkish foreign policy and domestic politics-foreign policy interactions.  He was elected as a Fellow of the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) and received the prestigious TÜBİTAK Science Award in Social Sciences in 2012. He also received the Outstanding Faculty Award of Koç University in 2012.

Ersel Aydınlı is Executive Director of the Turkish Fulbright Commission and Professor in the Department of International Relations at Bilkent University in Ankara. He is also General Coordinator of the Center for Foreign Policy and Peace Research (CFPPR). For three years he was also Chair of the IR Department. A former government officer in Turkey, Dr. Aydinli completed his Ph.D. at McGill University (Montreal), and a post-doctorate at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. He has taught at McGill, Middle East Technical (Ankara), and the George Washington University. His areas of research interest include international relations theory, globalization and security, terrorism, and Turkish domestic and foreign politics. He has published in such journals as Foreign Affairs, Journal of Peace Research, Governance, Security Dialogue, Middle East Journal, International Studies Review, and Review of International Studies. He is the author of Emerging Transnational (In)security Governance: A Statist Transnationalist Approach (Routledge, 2010) and the co-author (with James N. Rosenau) of Paradigms in Transition: Globalization, Security, and the Nation State (SUNY Press, 2005).

The abstracts should reveal the conceptual framework of the work in question, include five (5) keywords and should be minimum 500 words and up to 1000 words. The submitted abstracts will be evaluated by the Congress Evaluation Committee.

The submitted works should not be published beforehand in any way.

The Congress papers can be presented in both English and Turkish.
